The Choosing Wisely International Symposium was held in Auditory I at the Cabula Academic Unit of the Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health, as part of a worldwide campaign, initiated in 2012, by the U.S. American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation. The meeting promoted a debate against examinations, treatments and medical procedures deemed unnecessary or of unproven effectiveness.  The campaign has been expanded and spread in countries such as Canada, Italy, Japan and Brazil, among others.

The organizers were, Prof. Ana Marice Teixeira Ladeia, Coordinator of the Master's and Doctorate in Human Health, and professors and cardiologists Dr. Luis Cláudio Lemos Correia and Dr. Marta Silva Menezes. The symposium allowed Bahiana's academic community and other institutions to become acquainted with the "less is more" paradigm and its objective to rationalize medical decisions in favor of patients.
